HC Deb 03 November 1986 vol 103 c344W
Mr. Harrison

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many closed circuit televisions are installed on the M1 between London and Wakefield; for what purpose they are used; when they were installed; and when they will be removed.

Mr. Moore

Eight temporary closed circuit television cameras are in use at the contraflow scheme between junctions 14 and 15 of the M1 for the purpose of aiding traffic management and the deployment of emergency services. They were installed at the start of the contraflow scheme on 1 October and will be removed when the maintenance contract is completed in mid-November.

Permanent CCTV cameras are being installed between junctions 5 and 8 of the M1 by the end of the year to assist the police survey and manage the traffic flow in the vicinity of the MI-M25 interchange. Some of the masts for these are already in place but no cameras have as yet been installed.
