HC Deb 03 November 1986 vol 103 c308W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the implications of the common fisheries policy on the new Falkland Islands fishing limits.

Mr. Renton

The common fisheries policy does not apply to the Falkland Islands. It has no implications for the Falkland Islands interim conservation and management zone other than by virtue of the Community's competence for external fisheries matters.

Mr. Campbell-Savours

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what discussions have taken place with representatives of the Soviet Government on the question of fisheries limits around the Falkland Islands, and when.

Mr. Renton

As my right hon. and learned Friend said in the House on 29 October, the question of south Atlantic fisheries has been raised several times with the Soviet Union in the course of the last six months. He sent a message to the Soviet Foreign Minister explaining our decision to establish the Falkland Islands interim conservation and management zone. This was delivered in Moscow on 29 October.
