HC Deb 22 May 1986 vol 98 c306W
Mr. Ray Powell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what account was taken in reaching the decision to grant permission for United Kingdom bases to be used for the United States attack on Libya of the possible implications of retaliatory action by Libya for the perception by intending tourists of their safety in the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eggar

The reasons for our decision have been fully explained on a number of occasions and I have nothing further to add. The measures taken by the Government since 1984 have greatly reduced Libya's ability to promote terrorist activity in this country and intending tourists have no reason to cancel their plans on that account.
