HC Deb 22 May 1986 vol 98 cc259-60W
Mr. Lawler

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the Government's policy on deregulation of radio; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Giles Shaw

Within the existing legislative framework for radio, the Government welcome the steps taken by the IBA to avoid unnecessary burdens on programme contractors, consistent with the maintenance of the public interest in broadcasting. The future regulatory and institutional framework for all radio services will be addressed, in the light of the forthcoming experiment in community radio, in the Green Paper referred to in my reply to a question from my hon. Friend the Member for Leominster (Mr. Temple-Morris) on 8 May at column206.
