HC Deb 22 May 1986 vol 98 c296W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment why dosage emergency reference levels differ, namely, for iodine-131 in milk, by as much as a factor of four in the countries of western Europe; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waldegrave

[pursuant to his reply, 21 May 1986]: The emergency reference levels applied in the United Kingdom are recommended by the National Radiological Protection Board and are consistent with the international recommendations. Different levels may have been adopted in other countries but we have no information about the methods of calculation employed.
