HC Deb 22 May 1986 vol 98 cc294-5W
Mr. Bowen Wells

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what will be the effect of section 262 of the Local Government Act 1972 on the operation after 1986 of the Letchworth Garden City corporation.

Mr. Tracey

Section 262 of the Local Government Act 1972 provides that local Acts applying to non-metropolitan areas cease to have effect at the end of this year unless reenacted or exempted. An order under section 262 will shortly be laid before Parliament exempting from repeal a number of local statutory provisions including all provisions of the Letchworth Garden City Corporation Act 1962, other than those which are spent by the passage of time. This order will allow the corporation to continue unchanged its statutory task of managing and developing the undertaking of the former Garden City company.
