HL Deb 21 May 1986 vol 475 c382WA
Viscount Mersey>

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will consider including a glossary of acronyms in future Statements of Defence Estimates.

The Minister of State for Defence Procurement (Lord Trefgarne)

It is normal practice to explain the meaning of unfamiliar acronyms in Statements on the Defence Estimates when they are first used in any given chapter. As the majority are also spelled out in the index, a separate glossary would therefore be superfluous. We shall, however, ensure that the normal practice is adopted for all unfamiliar acronyms without exception in future Statements.
