§ Mr. Deakinsasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what information he has about the role of central banks in European Economic Community states which are full members of the European monetary system in respect of participation within the European monetary system; and how this role compares with the present role of the Bank of England.
§ Mr. Ian StewartThis is a matter for the member states concerned, but I have no reason to suppose that participation in the exchange rate mechanism has led to constitutional changes in the role of central banks in those member states.
