§ Mr. Yeoasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people are currently serving custodial sentences for non-violent offences.
§ Mr. MellorThe information about offences held centrally does not identify all prisoners serving sentences for violent offences as defined in schedule I to the Criminal Justice Act 1982. It is estimated that on 31 March 1986 about 25,000 prisoners were serving sentences for offences other than violence against the person, rape, buggery and gross indecency, aggravated burglary and robbery.
