§ 60. Mrs. Dunwoodyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what plans he has to increase United Kingdom aid to the African continent.
§ Mr. RaisonIncreasing priority is being given to those countries in sub-Saharan Africa where aid car be used effectively. We already have substantial bilateral aid programmes in Africa, and we are a major contributor to increasing multilateral aid programmes.
§ Mrs. Dunwoodyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if Her Majesty's Government have any plans to contribute to the International Fund for Agricultural Development's special fund for sub-Saharan Africa.
§ Mr. RaisonAs I told my hon. Friend the Member for Chipping Barnet (Mr. Chapman) on 21 April at column 17, we currently think it better to help agricultural projects 3W directly and through the voluntary agencies rather than to contribute extra money to IFAD beyond our share of the recent general replenishment.
