§ Sir Keith JosephThe average annual salary of full-time teachers in maintained primary and secondary schools in England and Wales following the 1 April 1986 payment is estimated to be £10,500. The average salary of teachers at 1 April 1979 was £5,400 or £9,731 at 1 April 1986 prices (adjusted by the RPI). These figures exclude all allowances.
