§ Mr. Mallonasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland waht action he proposes to take to ensure equal employment and promotion opportunites for all within Government Departments and public bodies.
§ Dr. BoysonThe equal opportunites policy statement published on 4 December 1984 sets out the Government's policy for the Northern Ireland Civil Service. A comprehensive system for monitoring the religous affiliations of its non-industrial staff has been introduced. I expect the first monitoring report to be available before the summer recess. It is also proposed to extend these arrangements in due course to industrial staff following consultation with the trade unions.
As for organisations outside the Northern Ireland Civil Service, consideration is being given to how the approach to equality of opportunity in employment could be made more comprehensive, consistent and effective.
