§ Mr. Tony Banksasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the total vehicle fleet of the Metropolitan police; and how many of these vehicles are (a) British built and (b) of foreign origin.
§ Mr. Giles ShawThe Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis informs me that the total vehicle fleet of the Metropolitan police, including cars, vans, motorcycles and other vehicles, was 4,004 as at 31 March 1986. Of these, 53 motorcycles and 51 cars-vans were manufactured outside the European Community. The country of manufacture of vehicles made by international companies within the EC is not always known, but at least two thirds of the remaining vehicles were manufactured in the United Kingdom.
