§ Dr. McDonaldasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish in the Official Report (i) the total number of maternity units in England and Wales and (ii) the number of maternity units which include a special care baby unit.
§ Mr. Whitney[pursuant to his reply, 27 February 1986 c.684]: Of the 369 National Health Service hospitals in England with maternity departments there were 227 with a special care baby unit in 1984, the latest year for which figures are available centrally. Figures for Wales are a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
