HL Deb 13 May 1986 vol 474 cc1129-30WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

On what grounds the weapons systems known as SS.21, SS.22 and SS.23 have been excluded from the list of weapon systems which would he eliminated under the latest United States proposals on Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces tabled at the Nuclear and Space Talks at Geneva.

Baroness Young

The US proposals on Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces at Geneva include limitations on shorter-range INF systems to prevent circumvention of limits and reductions on longer-range INF. These would apply to both the SS.22 and the SS.23. Short-range weapons, such as the SS. 21, are not currently a subject of these negotiations.
