HC Deb 12 May 1986 vol 97 c319W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will indicate the length of time that his Department will take to complete the payment of pensions and lump sum arrears to teachers whose last day of service was on or after 1 April 1985.

Mr. Chris Patten

Approximately 16,000 superannuation awards fall to be revised as a result of the late 1985 teachers' pay settlement, of which some 4,000 will have been processed by the end of this month. Bearing in mind the need to give priority during the summer to first-time awards for some 12,000 teachers expected to retire at the end of the summer term, the Department estimates that the remaining pension revisions will be completed by the end of November.
