HC Deb 12 May 1986 vol 97 cc312-3W
Mr. Tony Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if any assessment has been made of the danger of radiation building up on the fuselage of commercial planes; and whether he has given any advice to airlines about safety precautions in the light of increased atmospheric radiation.

Mr. Michael Spicer

The Civil Aviation Authority has advised operators of British aircraft to monitor their aircraft for increases in radioactivity levels so that precautions may be taken if necessary. Monitoring of British aircraft operating over Europe has indicated only slight localised increases in levels of radioactivity.
