HC Deb 12 May 1986 vol 97 cc313-4W
Sir Anthony Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the reason for the delay in reaching a decision on the siting of the Melbourn bypass; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Some 600 objections were received to the draft orders. They raised a number of complex issues, including the possibility of an alternative to the route proposed. It has necessarily taken some time to consider the objections and the inspector's recornmendations. The Secretaries of State for the Environment and for Transport hope their joint decision will not be long delayed.
