HC Deb 12 May 1986 vol 97 c332W
Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what was the total construction time and final commissioning date for the Dungeness B power station; and how these figures compare with the originally estimated construction time and commissioning date.

Mr. Goodlad

I have asked the chairman of the CEGB to write to the hon. Member.

Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the latest estimated final cost of the Dungeness B power station; and how this compares in real terms with the original estimated cost.

Mr. Goodlad

I refer the hon. Member to the reply given to the then hon. Member for Dearne Valley (Mr. Wainwright) on 8 March 1982 at column289.

Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the current capacity of Dungeness B power station in megawatts sent out; how this compares with the original design capacity; what is the total output to date in megawatts; and what was the original estimated annual output.

Mr. Goodlad

Maximum output obtained to date at Dungeness B has been 580 MW generated from the first unit (R21) and 440 MW generated from the second unit (R22), equating to a total of the 900 MW sent out. The original design capacity was 660 MW generated from each unit equating to a total of 1200 MW sent out. It is expected that the final output achieved will be close to this design output. Total output achieved to date has been 4.6 million MW hours. Original estimated annual output was in the region of 7.5 million MW hours.

Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the current cost of producing one megawatt hour of electricity at Dungeness B advanced gas cooled reactor power station; and what is the equivalent figure at Drax coal-fired stations.

Mr. Goodlad

I shall arrange for the CEGB to write to the hon. Member.
