Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) how many people were employed by London Underground in 1984, 1985 and 1986, respectively; and what financial savings have been made from the reduction in staffing levels;

(2) how many people were employed by London Buses in 1984, 1985 and 1986, respectively; and what financial savings have been made from the reduction in staffing levels;

(3) how many people were employed by London Regional Transport and its subsidiaries in 1984, 1985 and 1986, respectively; and what financial savings have been made from the reduction in staffing levels.

Employment statistics for LRT, London Buses and London Underground may be found in LRT's annual business plans. More efficient use of manpower contributes to the more cost effective services which the plans also report.
