How many prison officer hours were used in court escort duties and what was the cost involved in the most recent year for which figures are available.

Information on prison officer hours is not held centrally and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. In the financial year 1984–85 the total cost of servicing the courts incurred by the Prison Department in England and Wales was about £34 million.
