Mr. Bermingham

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what information he has about regional variations in the use made of section 136 of the Mental Health Act 1959; and if he will make a statement.

The available information for 1983 and 1984 is given in the following table. The information for earlier years was given in the reply by my hon. Friend the Member for Oxford, West and Abingdon (Mr. Patten) to the hon. Member on 24 January 1984 at column550.
