§ Mr. Frank Fieldasked the Secretary of State for Wales how many young people in Wales took (a) general certificate of education O-levels, (b) certificate of secondary education examinations and (c) both sets of examinations in 1985; and of these groups what is his best estimate of the number who did not return to school in the September term.
§ Mr. Wyn RobertsIt is provisionally estimated that in the academic year 1984–85, 31,400 school leavers had attempted at least one GCE O-level examination, 31,300 had attempted a CSE examination and 24,300 had attempted one examination of each type.
Comparable data estimates for pupils who left school in their minimum school leaving age year were 17,800, 22,700 and 16,100, respectively.
