§ 29. Mr. Peter Bruinvelsasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what measures he is taking to seek to retain serving officers in the Royal Ulster Constabulary and Royal Ulster Constabulary Reserve; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. ScottNo measures are necessary to retain police officers in the Royal Ulster Constabulary. The Royal Ulster Constabulary and the Royal Ulster Constabulary full-time reserve reached full established strength in December 1985 and in the period 1 January-31 March 1986 the numbers leaving the force have shown a substantial reduction on the same period last year. Applications to join the Royal Ulster Constabulary have maintained a high level. During 1985 some 4,600 applications were received for the Royal Ulster Constabulary together with some 3,500 applications for the full-time reserve. In the period 1 December-18 April, some 1,700 applications were received for the Royal Ulster Constabulary and some 1,000 for the Royal Ulster Constabulary full-time reserve.
