§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what representations he has received from financial institutions and companies about his proposal in the Social Security Bill for an extra contribution of 2 per cent. payable for five years to all employees taking out personal pensions.
§ Mr. NewtonA variety of views has been expressed in representations about the extra 2 per cent. contribution for personal pensions and occupational pension schemes which contract out from 1 January 1986. Some share the Government's view that it will serve principally as an encouragement. Others take the view—which the Government do not accept—that it might weaken existing occupational pension schemes.
§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he has yet decided who to appoint to the group which he intends to establish to advise him on aspects of marketing personal pensions and consumer protection.
§ Mr. FowlerMembership of the group which will advise Ministers on personal pensions will be announced shortly.
