asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the cost to public funds of the security of the secretariat at Maryfield of the Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Conference, specifying the amounts attributable to meetings of the conference.

As at 19 March 1986, payments made or in the process of being made were £336,000. This figure includes the costs for the RUC personnel and for security works for the accommodation of the Secretariat building.

In addition, a further £64,500 was paid for policing the secretariat on the day of the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Conference.
