HC Deb 27 March 1986 vol 94 c550W
Mr. Bell

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what information he has on the cost of overtime payments to (a) security forces and (b) clean-up crews due to the day of protest on 3 March.

Mr. Scott

The cost of overtime payments to members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary as a direct consequence of the day of protest on 3 March is estimated at £470,000. Her Majesty's Forces do not receive overtime payments. There were also some small overtime payments to employees of the Roads Service.

Mr. John David Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will call for a report from the Chief Constable of the Royal Ulster Constabulary as to how far the Royal Ulster Constabulary was extended on Monday 3 March; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Scott

I refer the right hon. Gentleman to the reply I gave to the hon. Member for Middlesbrough (Mr. Bell) on 26 March 1986.
