§ Mr. Maclennanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what assessment he has made of the effectiveness of the crofter housing grant and loan scheme; what representations he has received about the present levels of financial assistance it provides; and if he will increase the sums available to take account of the effect of inflation since the last revision in 1982.
§ Mr. John MacKayI refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave on 26 March to the right hon. Member for Western Isles (Mr. Stewart). The revised rates of592W assistance fully reflect movements in building costs since 1982. I believe the scheme continues to be a necessary and effective means of raising the standard of crofter housing.
