Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whom he has appointed to make up the panel to initiate the inquiry into the future of community health services.

Mr. Hayhoe

The members of the Inquiry into the future development of the public health function and the specialty of community medicine are as follows:

  • Mrs. Juliet Baxter—a vice president of the Pre-School Playgroups Association;
  • Sir Michael Carlisle—Chairman, Trent Regional Health Authority;
  • Professor Alasdair Geddes—Honorary Professor of Infectious Diseases, University of Birmingham, and Senior Physician in infectious diseases, West Midlands Regional Health Authority;
  • Mr. Peter Griffiths—District General Manager, Lewisham and North Southwark Health Authority;
  • Dr. Roderic Griffiths—Director of Health Care Policy, Central Birmingham Health Authority;
  • Dr. Michael O'Brien—Regional Medical Director, East Anglian Regional Health Authority;
  • Dr. Joseph Smith—Director, The Public Health Laboratory Service;
  • Mr. Alfred Stocks CBE—retiring on 31 March 1986 as Chief Executive, Liverpool City Council.

The inquiry is chaired by the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Donald Acheson.
