asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement about the progress of the trunk road programme in Scotland.

I am arranging for the list of major trunk road schemes started since 1 April 1985 and those expected to start by 31 March 1987 to be published in theOfficial Report and placed in the Library of the House.

The following schemes with estimated cost over £1 million have been started since 1 April 1985:

  • A7 Synton to Mossend
  • M74 Draffan to Millbank, stage III
  • A82 Auchentullich to Polnaberoch (Loch Lomond)
  • A82 Dubh Eas stage II
  • A835 Contin river bridge
  • A9 Alness bypass
  • A94 Forfar bypass

The following schemes with estimated cost over £1 million are expected to start by 31 March 1987:

  • A75 Anna bypass
  • A75 Castle Douglas bypass
  • A75 Ringford bypass
  • A82 Auchendennan to Arden (Loch Lomond)
  • A830 Kinsadel to Mallaig, stage I
  • A9 Mound bridges
  • A92 Murcar to Balmedie
  • A929 Kingsway to Powrie
  • A96 Auldearn bypass
  • A96 Bucksburn to Tyrebagger, stage I
  • A96 Forres bypass
