asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will now announce the names of the persons appointed to the committee of inquiry into the pay, conditions of service and management of the teaching profession in Scotland.

I have appointed the following five persons to form the committeeSir Peter Main (chairman), formerly chairman, The Boots Co plc, member of Scottish Development Agency Professor Christopher Blake, Bonar professor of applied economics, University of Dundee Sister Maire T. Gallagher, headteacher, Notre Dame high school, Dumbarton James S. Gordon CBE, managing director, Radio Clyde Robert G.E. Peggie CBE, chief executive (until 31 March 1986), Lothian regional council

The Committee will begin its work immediately. As I told the House on Thursday 6 March, I have asked it to report by the end of the summer.
