HC Deb 26 March 1986 vol 94 cc474-5W
Mr. Hunter

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he has yet completed the review of consultative bodies on radio regulatory matters.

Mr. Pattie

Reviews have now been carried out of the consultative arrangements applying in the fields of mobile radio and microwave fixed links.

For mobile radio I have decided that a new committee should be established with a broad base of representation, including members of associations representing manufacturers of equipment, operators of commercial radio systems and the user community. A small number of people may also be invited to attend in a personal capacity. This committee, to be called the Civil Land Mobile Radio Committee, will be able to examine and advise on strategic issues that affect the Department's regulatory policies. The committee will meet about three times a year.

A review of the membership of the Microwave Fixed Links Committee has also been concluded. This has enabled improvements to be made to the effective functioning of this committee by rationalising its membership without narrowing the spread of representation.
