Mr. Baldry

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what is the spending in real terms (a) at present, (b) five years ago and (c) 10 years ago on average per pupil (i) in secondary schools nationally (ii) in secondary schools in Oxfordshire, (iii) in primary schools nationally and (iv) in primary schools in Oxfordshire;

(2) how much extra money in real terms the Government have made available for education each year since 1979.

As pupil numbers in the schools have fallen, spending per pupil has risen to record levels.

The figures requested for net institutional expenditure per pupil nationally and in Oxfordshire are as follows:
