HC Deb 26 March 1986 vol 94 cc473-4W
Mr. Colvin

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what are the implications of the Brewers Society guidance notes on the dispense of draught beer by free flow and hand pumps for his decison on the possible bringing into force of section 19 of the Weights and Measures Act 1979; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Howard

I understand that the guidance notes which are being prepared by the Brewers' Society will seek to promote the use of glasses which can more readily acommodate local preferences for the way in which beer is dispensed. To facilitate the manufacture of such glasses the Department is currently reviewing the regulations dealing with the construction and testing of beer measures.

The Government will wish to see if this joint initiative proves to be satisfactory before considering implementing section 43 of the Weights and Measures Act 1985 (formerly section 19 of the 1979 Act.)
