HC Deb 25 March 1986 vol 94 c405W
Mr. Beith

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the latest estimate of the range of costs involved in the EDRP facility proposed for Dounreay, for the cost of associated waste management facilities and for the cost of railheads serving the site and the port of entry.

Mr. Goodlad

BNFL and the UKAEA advise an indicative cost for the European fast reactor demonstration reprocessing plant of around £300 million, about one-quarter of this being for radioactive waste management facilities. This estimate is based on preliminary design work. Should the project so ahead, it may need to be refined in discussion with the licensing and authorising departments and the partners in the European collaboration.

Cost of the transport infrastructure would depend on the routes selected; no decision has yet been taken.
