HC Deb 25 March 1986 vol 94 c395W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what action he takes to promote import substitution; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alan Clark

[pursuant to his reply, 24 March 1986]: I and my colleagues encourage all buyers — companies, individual consumers and the public sector—to look carefully at the advantages of buying British goods which are well designed, well-made and competitively priced. Much of my Department's work helps British manufacturers meet these requirements. In addition, we are looking at what further steps can be taken in this field.
