HC Deb 25 March 1986 vol 94 c411W
Dr. Godman

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what consideration has been given by the Scottish Courts Administration to the recommendation by the Scottish Affairs Committee in its second report, HC 237, 1985–86, that fisheries offences should be treated more seriously.

Mr. John MacKay

The Government are satisfied that the maximum penalties are adequate. The fine or other penalty to be imposed in any individual case is a matter for the court; the Scottish Home and Health Department has drawn the Committee's views to the attention of the Sheriffs Association.
