HC Deb 25 March 1986 vol 94 c433W
Mrs. Clwyd

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what total acreage of reclaimed derelict land in Wales in 1975 and 1985 is attributable to coal mining activities.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

Land reclamation schemes often involve works in more than one year. The following information is therefore provided on the basis of schemes approved to start in the years in question.

In 1975 the Welsh Office approved schemes to reclaim 1,020 acres of derelict land attributable to coal mining activities. In 1985 the Welsh Development Agency approved schemes for the reclamation of 260 acres of derelict land attributable to coal mining activities.

The decline in the reclamation of coal mining related land between 1975 and 1985 reflected the very considerable reclamation programme of colliery and tip complexes which had already been undertaken.

Mrs. Clwyd

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what was the total acreage of derelict land in Wales in 1975 and 1985.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

I refer the hon. Lady to my answer of 6 February 1986 at column245.
