HC Deb 25 March 1986 vol 94 c429W
Sir John Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement about the closing of Her Majesty's prison Armagh, the transfer of prisoners from there, and the future of the premises.

Mr. Scott

The 31 women inmates from Her Majesty's prison, Armagh, were transferred to the new women's prison at Maghaberry on 18 March. This has accommodation and facilities of a very high standard and replaces Armagh which has been closed. The decommissioning of the premises at Armagh is now under way. The final disposal of the property has not yet been determined.
