HC Deb 25 March 1986 vol 94 c417W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what representations his Department received concerning the amount of fifth and sixth freedom traffic carried by Air Canada on its services from Canada to Singapore via the United Kingdom; what representations were made to the Canadian Government on this matter at the recent air services agreement meeting; and what response was received.

Mr. Michael Spicer

British Airways has expressed concern about the amount of fifth freedom traffic carried between London and Singapore by Air Canada. My Department has concluded that the amount of this traffic is excessive under the terms of the United Kingdom-Canada air services agreement and has raised the matter with the Canadian Government. Further bilateral discussions on this and other United Kingdom-Canada aviation matters are expected towards the end of April.
