HC Deb 25 March 1986 vol 94 cc427-8W
Mr. Charles Wardle

asked the Minister for the Arts whether Her Majesty's Government have accepted any items in lieu of tax in accordance with the arrangements announced by his predecessor on 26 July 1985.

Mr. Luce

I announced on 13 February, in reply to a question from my hon. Friend the Member for Crawley (Mr. Soames), at column 502, that I proposed to increase the 1985–86 cash limit on class V, vote 10 by £520,000 with a resulting call on the reserve. The relevant Supplementary Estimate was approved by Parliament on 18 March. I am pleased to say that the enhanced total provision on vote 10 has allowed the acceptance of a very important archive of papers of the Dukes of Portland and Newcastle. The amount satisfied in lieu of tax remains confidential to the estate concerned.
