HC Deb 24 March 1986 vol 94 c334W
Mr. Dubs

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the chief constable of Hampshire about the circumstances in which a cruise convoy support vehicle crashed and overturned on the A339, two miles from Basingstoke, at 12.30 pm on 17 March.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I understand from the chief constable of Hampshire that this incident involved a vehicle belonging to the United States air force towing a trailer carrying camping equipment. At 11.45 am, as a heavy goods vehicle approached from the opposite direction, the driver of the USAF vehicle appeared to lose control and after mounting a bank it overturned. Three persons were on board but none was hurt. The vehicle did not form part of a cruise missile or any other convoy, and there was no wider threat to safety.
