§ Mr. Peter Bruinvelsasked the Prime Minister what funds have been made available to the city of Leicester in each of the past three years and to date, broken down by Department; and if she will make a statement.
§ The Prime MinisterThe readily available information covers grants and subsidies to the city of Leicester district council and is given in the table. The figures for inner-area programme, slum clearance and improvement grants are from DOE central records of payments and entitlements, whereas the balance of specific grants not identified by Departments has been estimated from the authority's outturn or budget returns.
The figures do not include allocations of money other than to the local authority—for instance, social security payments, funding for hospitals and other health services, aid for employment and training measures, grants to companies, voluntary bodies, other institutions and individuals and support for the arts. Details of this funding could not be obtained without disproportionate cost, but it would be in total be much larger than the grants and subsidies to the local authority shown here.
