HC Deb 24 March 1986 vol 94 c393W
Mr. Baldry

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what assessment he has made in the light of Exercise Brave Defender of the adequacy of the United Kingdom's armed reserves for the defence of the home base; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lee

The success of Exercise Brave Defender has confirmed our ability to discharge successfully our crucial military home defence role. The continuing build-up in the strength and capabilities of the reserve forces, as set out in paragraphs 446–451 of last year's "Statement on the Defence Estimates" (Cmnd. 9430–1), is a clear indication of the importance which we place on home defence and of the vital contribution made by our reserve forces.
