§ Mr. LeeThe success of Exercise Brave Defender has confirmed our ability to discharge successfully our crucial military home defence role. The continuing build-up in the strength and capabilities of the reserve forces, as set out in paragraphs 446–451 of last year's "Statement on the Defence Estimates" (Cmnd. 9430–1), is a clear indication of the importance which we place on home defence and of the vital contribution made by our reserve forces.
