Mr. Mason

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what representations he has made within the councils of the European Economic Community and the European Coal and Steel Community about the dumping of third country coal into western Europe; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Hunt

None. The European Communities apply the GATT anti-dumping and subsidy codes which cover dumped and subsidised imports; responsibility to implement those codes rests with the European Commission, to whom any well-founded allegations would be made.

Mr. Mason

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what have been the contracts established between the Central Electricity Generating Board and the National Coal Board and the tonnages of coal sold to the Central Electricity Generating Board by the National Coal Board in each of the last five years.

Mr. Goodlad

Details of the commercial arrangements between the Central Electricity Generating Board and the National Coal Board on coal supply are a matter for the two boards. According to the CEGB's annual reports and accounts, in the last five years the NCB has delivered the following tonnages to it:

Million tones
1980–81 75
1981–82 74

Million tones
1982–83 79
1983–84 70
1984–85 29
