§ Mr. Freudasked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will make a statement on the state of progress of the Chatteris bypass; and if he will list any recent representations he has received in opposition to the bypass.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThe Chatteris eastern bypass is a scheme for which Cambridgeshire county council is the highway authority. It made the necessary orders on 27 January 1986. The other objection period expired on 19 March. There have been 21 objections, eight of them from statutory objectors. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State will accordingly be arranging a public inquiry unless these objections are withdrawn in the meantime.
