§ Lord Mulleyasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether they will ensure that the Bill to provide for the construction of the Channel Fixed Link will include a reference, as in the treaty, to the fact that such a link shall "include any freight or other facility and any road link between the United Kingdom and France which may be agreed between the High Contracting Parties to form part of the Fixed Link".
The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (The Earl of Caithness)The Channel Tunnel Bill will not include provision for any road link that may be agreed upon in future under the Channel Fixed Link Treaty. Any such further development would be dealt with in a separate Bill.
