HC Deb 24 March 1986 vol 94 c341W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if the weight of a carcase is classified under regulations made by his Department as cold weight after one hour following the stunning and consequent slaughter of an animal.

Mr. Gummer

When beef or sheep variable premium is claimed at the deadweight stage, carcases should normally be presented for certification within twenty four hours of slaughter. Payment is based on the cold weight of the carcases concerned which, for the purposes of these schemes, is taken to be the actual weight recorded in cases where the carcase is weighed more than one hour after slaughter. In cases where the carcase is weighed before this time, an adjustment is made to allow for subsequent weight loss.
