§ 58. Mr. Andrew MacKayasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what consideration has been given in the formulation of policy on crime prevention, and particularly the prevention of burglary, to the problems of quantities of unsolicited mail indicating the absence of the occupier of a house.
§ Mr. Giles ShawThe Home Office has been in touch with the distributors of free newspapers and other material about how best to tackle the crime hazards which cart be caused by unsolicited literature. A code of practice for publishers produced by the Association of Free Newspapers now includes a crime prevention element. In addition, police forces advise householders to seek the help of a neighbour to ensure unsolicited mail is not left visible while they are away.
