HC Deb 20 March 1986 vol 94 c261W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he has any plans to increase funding to local authority social services departments in proportion to the increased number of elderly people living in Wales.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The impact of the increasing numbers of elderly people on the work of the local authority social services departments is reflected in the annual rate support grant settlements. In addition we have set aside further provision of £1 million in 1986–87, rising to £5 million over three years, to finance schemes arising out of our "A Good Old Age" initiative about which, following recent consultation, we expect to make a further anouncement.
